Learn some simple steps you can take today to begin making your homesteading dream come true?

Starting with a small flock of three chickens in our backyard was a great way to supplement our food and gain some control over what we ate.

You may be saying to yourself, “Who are these people and why would anyone want to read what they have to say?” We have often wondered that ourselves.

But you’re not here for us. You came here because there’s something about the concept of slowing down a little in our ever so hectic lives and getting back to a simpler time. Perhaps you’re tired of working hard to buy the stuff you use to distract you from how hard you have to work to be able to afford the things you use to relax after a hard day’s work. That’s just exhausting to think about but it’s the truth for so many people.

You long for a lifestyle filled with family and connection where you feel like you can make a difference in the world. That difference may be small and only affect the lives of yourself and your family. But these are the people you do everything for. Your entire existence is to build the best possible life for them. And for them, and yourself, that will be reason enough!

If that rings true let me say to you that you are ready to homestead. You’re ready to create a life where you make more and consume less. A life closer to nature. A life where simplicity is valued over sophistication. Where you have the tools and knowledge to provide more and consume less.

Now you may not be ready to quit your 9-5 job and buy 20 acres in the country and live off the land and what it can provide you. Tempting as that may seem how practical and realistic is that? But, there are things you can do today to begin this adventure of homesteading.

The most important thing you can do today is something, ANYTHING, that will get you a step closer to whatever your homesteading dream looks like. The truth of the matter is that anyone living anywhere can be a homesteader right now! Today, even if you live on the 8th floor of a high rise apartment in some major city you can begin. That might be as simple as buying a pot of basil that you’ll grow in your kitchen window. Maybe it’s staying home and making a meal from scratch instead of ordering takeout or a pizza. Maybe it’s taking a little bit of a cultured dairy product and sitting it on your kitchen counter for a few hours to create your own kefir full of healthy probiotics without any preservatives or added sugars that you might find in a store bought bottle.

Any small step you take will get you one step closer to that goal. It may take you months years or even decades to fully realize your dream but if you’re waiting until you’ve saved up enough money for the down payment on your hobby farm you may be waiting years to realize that dream. If you wait until then you’ll have missed out on so many rewarding experiences that will make you more prepared for that day.

Our blog will be full of the things we have learned from books and the internet. A lot of that comes from years of experience and learning for ourselves what does and doesn’t work. Much of it will also come from the wisdom of the generations that have come before us.

so let’s get started! Because you’re ready! Today! Let’s get started becoming every day more and more Ready To Homestead!
